Once you have adopted a dog from us, we feel that it is important for you to know we are still with you if necessary. Whilst the responsibility of ownership remains with the new owner we are happy to be a source of advice and support if you have any concerns about your dog, especially while they continue to settle during the period after adoption.
When you adopt you should be expecting to take on a life-long commitment to safeguard your new family member. As such, part of the adoption agreement includes that should an adopter's personal circumstances unexpectedly change in the future resulting in an inability to keep your dog, that you get in touch with Paws Crossed to let us help you re-home your dog appropriately and effectively. For instance we can help with home checks.
Paws Crossed adopters are also able to join a private Facebook group where they can safely share their new family member's progress and seek support from other adopters. If you have adopted one of our dogs and not yet joined but would like to, please message Amanda. Should you have family members who wish to also join, please let Amanda know so that she can approve their membership to the group.
All dogs will need a period of adjustment as they settle and learn to understand the ground rules for their new home. However should an adopter have any issues with their new family member's behaviour they may have access to an experienced animal behaviourist via Paws Crossed if the need arises. We also now offer basic dog training classes for our adopters. Please get in touch with Amanda if you have any concerns about your adopted dog's behaviour.
